JONES AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY: Erik Jones returns to Joe Gibbs Racing for the 2018 season taking over the driver’s seat of the No. 20 Toyota Camry. For his first start of the season, Jones will join 16 other Cup Series stars for the annual Advance Auto Parts Clash on Sunday afternoon. Jones won his first-career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series pole in August 2017 at Bristol Motor Speedway to qualify for the 75-lap race at Daytona International Speedway. This will be Jones first Advance Auto Parts Clash.
JGR AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY: Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) has 123 total starts at Daytona International Speedway in Cup Series competition between the Daytona 500 and July race. In those starts, the team has earned five wins, 27 top-five finishes, 39 top-10 finishes and four pole starting positions. The team has led 1,564 laps, completed 19,889 of 21,774 attempted laps (91.3%) and earned an average start of 15.5 and an average finish of 19.8. Denny Hamlin (2016) and Dale Jarrett (1993) both scored Daytona 500 wins for the team and Kyle Busch (2008) and Tony Stewart (2005 and 2006) both visited victory lane during the July race weekend. For the Advance Auto Parts Clash, JGR teammates Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin have both earned wins, most recently with Hamlin winning the 2016 event.
SOPHOMORE SEASON: Fresh off their rookie season campaign, Jones and crew chief Chris Gayle enter their second year together as Gayle returns to Joe Gibbs Racing after a one-year stint at Furniture Row Racing as the crew chief for Jones and the No. 77 Toyota Camry team in 2017.
THIS WEEK ON THE NO. 20 CAMRY: To kick off the 2018 season, Circle K will adorn the No. 20 Toyota Camry for the 2017 Sunoco Rookie of the Year. Circle K will return to the No. 20 Toyota Camry for two more races during the season.
