Team Chauvinist Pig Takes First Place at Reser’s Cole Slaw Competition at Memphis in May

By / May 18, 2011

Beaverton Ore. – May 18, 2011 – More than 50 teams entered the nation’s largest cole slaw competition at this year’s Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Contest. Team Chauvinist Pig from Memphis, Tennessee won the grand prize title receiving $1,000 from Reser’s® Fine Foods for their creative, award-winning recipe.

Allen Floring from team Chauvinist Pig decided to enter the Reser’s Cole Slaw competition using his grandmother’s recipe.  “I grew up eating this cole slaw with every picnic and barbeque my family hosted. The sweet and sour flavors perfectly complement pulled pork,” said Allen.

Prizes were also awarded to 2nd place team “P-Funk & The Fatback Allstars”, and 3rd place team “Greaseland Porkers”. More than 100,000 people attended the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Contest at Tiger Lane at the Mid-South Fairgrounds. Hundreds of teams competed in various contests for over $110,000 in prizes, but only one team took home the nation’s largest Cole Slaw Championship award – congratulations team Chauvinist Pig!
